roundabout . . . a curatorial collaboration

Patrick Macaulay selected David as the first person in the exhibition, Patrick wrote this about him:

detail of "mysterious aspects of the present" 2002, Giclee print" Over the years I have listened to David Hlynsky talk about photography. It is clear to me that he has a tremendous commitment to the photographic community. His views on the subject are all embracing and expansive. He argues for poetic elements to be sought out in photographic work, but is also a keen believer of the theoretical rudiments essential to the photographic process. In Hlynsky's ideal, the conceptual aspects work together with the poetic to make well-built and commanding images. The photographer, asked to be the first link in this process, had to have an ability to foresee the exciting possibilities of this I roundabout' exhibition as well as its hazards. It is difficult to plot the curatorial outcome in an exhibition with eight curators, so a certain amount of trust must be at the underpinning of one's choice of artist. If there is one photographer who could envision this remarkable linking of photographers and their images into this roundabout exhibition -- it is David Hlynsky. "
